"No beast so fierce without some trace of pity?""
—Dion.

Dion Ninefingers was a traveling mercenary and former soldier of Westmarch. He was the leader of the traveling group known as the Knavesmire Trio. He was also a former member of the defunct Darkfire Marauders mercenary group prior to creating the trio. Dion's thievery of magic runes had put him into a temporary bind with Alec Kylar who would later become his underworld contractor. In 1274, Dion was killed in battle during the Day of Ashfall amidst the Brennor Crisis.

History[]

Dion was born in a small village in rural Westmarch, his father having hailed from Khanduras. Dion had his finger cut off at the age of ten for having been caught thieving a bag of highly expensive rings. His father begged for mercy on his son and was able to have his punishment reduced from Dion's hand being removed to only his middle finger. This earned Dion a surname he would later adopt as Ninefingers.

When he was only thirteen Dion was caught by his father molesting a young neighbor girl. He was exiled by his family and village, threatened of death if he ever returned home. In the following years Dion continued pilfering until he stole enough coins to travel to the capitol of Westmarch. He offered himself as a body guard to traveling merchants in exchange for food, shelter and company, all whilst he would steal his employer's coins in small intervals.

An Absent Heart[]

Dion joined military service in the capitol at age fifteen as a page and later a squire. Dion displayed extraordinary dedication, skill and discipline in combat situations, but his demeanor towards his superiors often resulted in harsh punishments. During the summer of 1258 at a tournament within the capitol, Dion was assigned to squire for Paladin Arvid during the horseback and combat matches. The two developed a bold friendship that inspired Dion to better his morale.

Dion became infatuated with Lady Lena Bennen during a tournament in the capitol while he squired for Arvid. After Arvid won the tournament with Dion's help, Avrid gave Dion the honors bestowing a flower to a woman in the audience as the Queen of Love and Beauty in which he chose Lena. After the tournament Lena found Dion in private, against the wishes of her father Byron, and the two shared a passionate moment before departing. The two never saw each other again, but Dion remained infatuated with her for many years after.

Underworld Commerce[]

Character and Appearance[]

Dion is sly, calculating and greedy, traits that compliment his occupation as a 'professional' thief, and thus he has a dubious reputation. His peers view him as a trickster. Alec has often described him as the worst 'vermin' that he has crossed paths with, and holds him with little respect.
